01/ NARROW MARROW

The space playing host to this charming cafe started off as a narrow lane in between the shophouses many decades ago, and has since been given a roof and converted into its current shoplot. Narrow Marrow serves as both a cool hangout spot as well as a proud exhibit space for the various conquests amassed by the owners during their travels abroad. For its deep vintage value and its gorgeous repurposed space, Narrow Marrow fits right on top of our list. Do take note of their opening hours though.

Lunarbar occupies a tight shoplot on the ground floor of the Penang Bowl complex, with space being allocated between the bar counter, two small islands of tables and chairs, and their very prominent and handsome display of plants that are for sale. It's every bit as pretty as it is tight. Complimented with loads of sunlight from the airy surrounding, it is perhaps the perfect spot to spend a lazy afternoon, provided that you're not elbowing your way around with the other patrons. Try a peaceful off-peak weekday.

The entire ground level of the impossibly long shoplot space is worthy of exploration, airy and partly double-volumed, and peppered with charming industrial-vintage furniture and deco items.
