Guangzhou may be famous for its booming wholesale market, but the third largest city in China is also fast placing itself on the map for urban and archi photographers with a string of modern buildings that showcases China's progressive arts movement. Working alongside these modern day marvels are the delights of the cantonese cuisine and a burgeoning thirdwave cafe culture, giving the city a rather well-rounded experience.

Among the notable spots that we love are:

* Zaha Hadid's Guangzhou Opera House

* Parc Central Mall (remember to check out the Apple Store facade and staircase)

* Guangzhou Public Library

* Canton Tower

* Redtory, 红砖厂, though it's not even half as big nor as impressive as Beijing 798 artzone

* Guangzhou Four Seasons Hotel lobby (photography with a camera is not allowed, so do snap quickly before a staff catches you)

* 上下九步行街

* Guangzhou International Convention Center was a miss, as we could not devise a way to go through the tight security of the place during a non-event day.
