Caught in between the scissor stairs and the scorching sun. Our urban exploring adventure in Nanning begins in this 36yo apartment complex. While the two 7-storey blocks themselves may not look like anything out of the ordinary, the interlocking scissor stairway system in between them connects the two blocks together, giving the resulting structure a curious, maze-like vibe with a satisfying symmetry. And the icing on this vintage archi cake? It’s definitely the city’s blessed tropical-like evening weather with the sun setting right behind the stairs.
