I may have lost count of the number of years spent combing the streets of KL searching for my next photo story, but I do know as a fact that I have never really given much thought to documenting the Merdeka mood around the city come August and September every year. 2020 is definitely not the best year for that, as we continue to practise social distancing and avoid large-scale celebrations. But the pandemic gave me the opportunity and determination to still try. Special thanks to Fotorgear for making the wonderful Magilight lightpainting stick, for without it, I would not have been as effective in injecting some patriotic themes to some of the locations that I covered.
